Since it launched its first vehicle, Tesla has not had a true competitor in the luxury electric vehicle segment. However, this is about to change with the introduction of the Jaguar I-Pace. As the first all-electric vehicle from the esteemed British automaker, this compact SUV is widely regarded as a credible Tesla rival with its impressive range, outstanding handling, and upscale cabin. Take a look at how the 2019 Jaguar I-Pace stacks up against the 2018 Tesla Model S.

While it produces fewer horsepower than the Tesla Model S, the Jaguar I-Pace generates 125 more pound-feet of torque. The SUV may also be a better vehicle for driving in the city because of its smaller dimensions. It is 11.7 inches shorter and 2.7 inches narrower than the Model S, making it easier to maneuver in tight quarters. Its maneuverability is further enhanced by its tight curb-to-curb turning diameter, which is 1.4 inches shorter than its rival's Despite its smaller size, the Jaguar I-Pace's wheelbase is 1.2 inches longer than the Tesla's, contributing to a more stable ride.

Safety & Security

Both the 2019 Jaguar I-Pace and 2018 Tesla Model S are fitted with a variety of airbags, electronic stability systems, traction control, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, and a long list of driver-assistance technologies. However, the Jaguar has a number of safety features that are either absent or cost extra in the Tesla. First, it comes standard with lane-keeping assistance, which automatically steers you back into your lane when you start to drift out of it. This feature is optional in the Model S.

In addition, the Jaguar I-Pace is equipped with a rear cross-traffic warning system, which uses wide-angle radar to detect and alert you to vehicles and pedestrians crossing your path while you are backing up. It also has a driver alert monitoring system that sounds a warning when it detects drowsiness or inattentiveness in the driver. Another notable safety feature you will find in the Jaguar is the clear exit monitor. This system warns back-seat passengers of approaching vehicles or cyclists before they open the rear doors. The Tesla Model S does not offer these features.

Warranty

If you decide to get the 2019 Jaguar I-Pace, you will receive a basic warranty that lasts for 5 years or 60,000 miles. This warranty covers the entire SUV and includes roadside assistance. The basic warranty on the 2018 Tesla Model S is only valid for 4 years or 50,000 miles. Also, the Jaguar comes with complimentary maintenance for 5 years or 60,000 miles, while the Tesla does not offer free maintenance.

Whether you opt for the 2019 Jaguar I-Pace or 2018 Tesla Model S, you can rest assured that you will have an exceptionally fuel-efficient, powerful, and comfortable vehicle. However, the Jaguar may be a more appealing option because of its lower starting price, generous warranties, and free scheduled maintenance. If you are interested in getting the 2019 Jaguar I-Pace, do not hesitate to stop by for a test drive.
